Restoration History

The R. A. Clement Association (RAC) and the West Rowan Neighborhood Advisory Council (WRNAC) have forged a powerful partnership with the ambitious goal of raising $5 million. This substantial sum is earmarked for the comprehensive restoration and preservation of the beloved campus, a project that is not only vital for the physical upkeep of the grounds but also for honoring its rich history and enduring legacy.

To ensure efficient progress and timely completion, the extensive work has been strategically organized into various phases. These phases meticulously address different aspects of the campus improvements, demonstrating a thorough and thoughtful approach to the project. Key areas of focus include:

  • Foundational Improvement: This critical phase addresses the underlying structural integrity of the campus buildings, ensuring their long-term stability and safety.

  • Interior and Exterior Preservation: This encompasses a wide range of restorative efforts, including the meticulous preservation of windows, which are often architectural focal points and crucial for energy efficiency and historical accuracy.

  • Auditorium Preservation: The auditorium, often a central gathering place, will undergo dedicated preservation to restore its grandeur and functionality, allowing it to continue serving as a hub for community events and cultural activities.

  • Memorabilia/Museum Space: A dedicated space will be created or enhanced to house and display cherished memorabilia, transforming it into a museum that chronicles the campus's history, achievements, and impact on the community. This will serve as an invaluable educational resource and a tribute to those who have contributed to its story.

  • Landscaping Improvements: The exterior aesthetics are equally important, with specific attention given to landscaping improvements, such as the revitalization of the courtyard. This will enhance the overall beauty and usability of the campus grounds, creating inviting and serene outdoor spaces.

The success of this monumental undertaking is built upon a foundation of unwavering support from the community. We extend our deepest gratitude to each and every one of you for your outstanding support over the years. The R. A. Clement Alumni Association, along with countless individuals and families, has demonstrated exceptional generosity, contributing more than $150,000 since 2012 specifically for campus restoration efforts. Their dedication and financial contributions have been instrumental in reaching this point.

This significant progress has also been made possible through a multifaceted approach to funding, incorporating crucial grants and invaluable contributions from diverse sources. The Town of Cleveland has provided essential support, alongside dedicated foundations, corporations, and other individuals who share our vision for the campus's future.

As we move forward, your continued involvement and support are absolutely essential to bring this ambitious project to fruition. We are passionately committed to completing the campus preservation and restoration project by 2026. This target date holds profound significance, as it aligns with the United States' 250th Birthday celebrations and commemorates 72 years since the landmark Brown v. Board of Education Supreme Court Decision. By achieving this goal, we will not only restore a physical space but also honor a rich heritage and solidify the campus's enduring role as a beacon of education and community spirit. Join us in making this dream a reality.
